This is a test bug with noreg-self and no code changes so we can envisage a backport. It's also a tier2 test causing intermittent failures in the CI - so it's probably worth backporting. [~dclarke] could you take care of backporting to 21? https://openjdk.org/jeps/3#Integrating-fixes-and-enhancements https://openjdk.org/jeps/3#rdp-1 > Bugs and enhancements of any priority that only affect tests, or test-problem lists, or documentation may be addressed in RDP 1 and RDP 2. You don’t need to request approval for such a change in order to integrate it, but please do make sure that the issue has a noreg-self or noreg-doc label, as appropriate.

[~dfuchs] "No that's precisely what we want to avoid. Because how "localhost" maps to an InetAddress depends on the machine configuration, which is a recipe for intermittent failures." The intermittent failure for this test is due the hardcoded port number ... I'd be interested in some examples of localhost mapping causing intermittent failures. It will either map to 127.0.0.1 or ::1 ....how can this cause intermittent failures ? If test are experiencing such issues then applications will encounter them also !!!

based on Daniel's last GitHub comment and requested change then I think it would be useful to add two additional run requests to the test which set the network properties preferIPv4Stack=true and preferIPv6Addresses=true, for completeness. You never know what might "pop out of the woodwork"
