Description
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
I would like to request that JDK-8283620 be backported to JDK 18, to avoid needing to set the undocumented sun.stdout.encoding and sun.stderr.encoding properties with that JDK to achieve the same effect.
Comments
Since the modification involves Java SE spec change, it cannot go into the prior releases unless the change warrants a Maintenance Release agreed upon at the JCP, and I don't think this change satisfies the requirement.

Since JDK-8283620 has an associated CSR JDK-8284778, it is highly unlikely that the changes will be backported to earlier releases.
