A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The application almost always crashes after start. C2 compiler enters infinite loop while compiling the same method of our application, ir consumes all physical memory and the app (or the whole OS sometimes) crashes. 

REGRESSION : Last worked in version 10.0.2

After some more hours of debugging, I was finally able to create a regression test for this: https://bugs.openjdk.java.net/secure/attachment/80223/TestSplitIfOpaque1.java The inner loop of test1 is found to be a counted loop and a loop limit check is added by updating the Opaque1 input of the predicate template. This Opaque1 node is then pushed upwards to before the predicates of the outer loop and ends up right after the second 'if (b)'. The split-if optimization kicks in and splits the first predicate of the outer loop (an "obj != NULL" check) through the 'if (b)' region. We fail because the region contains an unexpected Opaque1 node. This bug was fixed by accident with JDK-8211451 in JDK 12 b21. With the fix, loop limit checks no longer update the input of the Opaque1 node but insert a new predicate. I'm therefore closing this as duplicate of JDK-8211451 which should also be backported to JDK 11. I've filed JDK-8215410 to integrate the regression test.

The unexpected node is an Opaque1Node that was pushed above the loop predicates by the code in PhaseIdealLoop::build_loop_late_post: http://hg.openjdk.java.net/jdk/jdk/file/339d2fbe8675/src/hotspot/share/opto/loopnode.cpp#l4307 Split if is then applied to one of the predicates which triggers the assert because the Opaque1Node is not expected in that block (it should get a control assigned that is close to its user). This code was added by JDK-8205515 in JDK 11 b21 (which was a fix on top of JDK-8203197).

The reporter mentioned "it is reproduced on 2 machines, T5600 on laptop and Q9300 processor on desktop. It's both very old processors (~10 years), can this be the difference?". With a Test.class file provided by the reporter and above hint, I've checked the intrinsics that are inlined with replay compilation and noticed that some of them are dependent on SSE42 which is not available on the reporter's machine. Disabling it via -XX:-UseSSE42Intrinsics hits the following assert with a fastdebug build: # Internal Error (t:/workspace/open/src/hotspot/share/opto/split_if.cpp:133), pid=19460, tid=13180 # assert(use->is_CMove()) failed: unexpected node type With a product build, we quickly run out of memory.

pre ILW = Native memory allocation failure / infinite loop with c2; seems rare; disable compilation of identified method = HMM = P2 For now targeting for 12. But awaiting more info inputs from submitter (reproducible results with fastdebug build run?)

C2 crash during compilation of "ru.orbita.multipeak.fitter.projectfile.ProjectFileAdapter::getStringFromXML (134 bytes)" Created test case with provided 2 functions, but without exact parameter to getStringFromXML() it looks not easy to reproduce java command executed - "java_command: MagicPlot " Downloaded MagicPlot software from https://magicplot.com/downloads.php (Trial version) As we don't have steps to reproduce this issue and there is no replay_data file to replay compilation events, this will be difficult for us to reproduce. Requested submitter for steps to reproduce along with replay_data file
