The site is no longer available, and sister sites such as BBC Science, History etc do not show this problem. Given that RT-16878 is fixed, I'm going to mark this bug resolved.

This is not a gradient problem. It is a problem with GIF background: http://www.bbc.co.uk/vision/productisation/images/f/accordion_content.gif
