A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
I attach a sample class file to reproduce the error. After compiling the code, if you run it with:
java -server Bug 1000
the correct ouput should be 10, while after some executions you can note the output is "1".

The problem does *not* exhibit without -server (i.e. client JVM).

This is a serious problem that caused *major* problems to our customers, I suppose it's implications can affect many users out there.

What happens is that after  a number of executions (around 900) the hotspot compiler optimizes the code and breaks it.

REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.

EVALUATION I kept this bug separate from 5091921 hoping it would need less changes than 5091921 so I can fix it first. But as I spent time working on the loop sign flip problem I realized that I can not separate the fix. I am concentrating on full fix for 5091921.

EVALUATION More specifically, when loopopts "canonicalizes" a loop, the loop limit may be adjusted by the stride amount. If the limit plus the stride causes integer wrap due to overflow (or underflow), during runtime, the loop may prematurely terminate.
