In tiger builds 23 and later, DirectAudioDevice has the following problems:
- on Windows: mixers are reported, even if no soundcard is installed. Trying to open such a mixer, or line of it, results in LineUnavailableException
- on Solaris: the per-process mixer is always disabled
- add the respective other endian'ess and signed-ness in the reported format objects (explicitly advertising the implicit conversion)
- even on systems with DirectAudioDevices, SimpleInputDevice is activated. This is unnecessary.
