java version "1.3.0"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0-C)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.0-C, mixed mode)

This is with reference to Bug Id:4399983.

Thank you very much for taking your time to rectify this bug. But I still
feel that it is a bug. It happens not only with the JavaWebServer but with
IIS4.0 ,apache and BEA.

It should not throw an exception but return the statuscode ,so that we can
process the information according to the status code.
Getting the status code from a stream is not the right way and many java
programmers have wasted countless hrs. before realizing that it is the api's
fault and not his fault.

And one more thing, W@p devices supports text/txt too.

If the browser is able to display the error code , then why cannot the java api
return the status code properly.

Please look into this matter once again.

WORK AROUND Name: boT120536 Date: 01/10/2001 cannot do it until it is rectified and getting the statuscode from the exception is cumbersome. ======================================================================

EVALUATION The synopsis on this bug doesn't match the bug description. From the bug description the issue is that getResponseCode throws an exception instead of returning the http response code. This is a bug that we plan to fix in merlin and thus I'm closing this bug as a duplicate of 4403652. alan.bateman@ireland 2001-01-12
