Within the year all EU member countries (except for four) will start transition to a common currency called the ECU -- ie: no more Frech Franc, German mark, Irish punt, etc.
This means that we will start to see keyboards in Europe with the new "euro sign" key on the keyboard. The symbol for the "euro sign" has already been approved by the Unicode Technical Committee but it not yet part of the Unicode standard (waiting for ISO process to complete), See :-
