REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.

---------- BEGIN SOURCE ----------
import java.util.ArrayList;

public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        int total = new ArrayList<Integer>().stream().reduce(0, (x, y) -> x + y, (x, y) -> x + y);
    }
}

---------- END SOURCE ----------

CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Specifying type parameters seems to solve the issue.

package test;

import java.util.ArrayList;

public class Test {
    public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
        int total = new ArrayList<Integer>().stream().reduce(0,
                (Integer x, Integer y) -> x + y,
                (Integer x, Integer y) -> x + y);
    }
}
