SAP supports other platforms and this is used in those ports as I assume based on conversion about other changes. Also Coleen agreed to use these changes in our code in future. The changes will be pushed into stage repo first to help PPC64 port because changes in our code will be done much later.

The status of this is unclear. It seems not directly related to the ppc64 port but a generic "enhancement" that the ppc64 code happens to use.
