Checks on the correctness of the UUID format were added with this fix. Ideally, it should have gone through CCC. I think a release note is valid for such a change. See JDK-8159339 also.

I rescind my previous comment. Lets just push the remaining work in one patch.

Remaining work could still be split into two parts-constructor and toString(). I recommend doing toString() part first.
