Description
XAWT is the new AWT toolkit. Its implementation is purely Java with only minimal wrappers to native functions. It is simplier, faster, and easier to maintain. It is more compatible with the latest desktop systems(Gnome, KDE, Cinnabar) and latest protocols(_NET, XEmbed). It is safer as it is pure Java, and is more flexible. It is also backward-compatible to Motif toolkit. We should make XAWT the default Toolkit on Solaris and the only Toolkit in AWT for Unix systems to get the maximum profit from the listed advantages over old Motif-based toolkit.
