The Japanese character encoding standard JIS X 0213 is
getting more and more traction in the industry and needs to be supported
by the Java runtime. Note that JIS X 0213 includes characters that are
mapped into the Unicode supplementary character range, so this requires
support for supplementary characters (RFE 4533872).

EVALUATION Will receive strong consideration for 1.5/Tiger as an addition to existing set of CJK and East Asian new I/O bundled charsets. ###@###.### 2002-11-19 Won't happen for Tiger. JSR 204 expert committee have forwarded a decision that timing is not appropriate to add JIS X 0213 support in terms of adding charset support for JIS X 0213 charsets. Will be quite likely to be on the table again after Tiger. ###@###.### 2003-11-13 Keeping the request open for next j2se release so that requirement for actual concrete implementations of JIS X 0213 based character encoding schemes and charsets might be re-evaluated closer to that point in time. ###@###.### 2004-01-21 Not for mustang. ###@###.### 2005-07-21 23:32:00 GMT
