EVALUATION I can see that this might be a little convenient but on balance I'm not sure that it is really necessary. The services database is a more or less static list of well-known port numbers that can just as easily be hardcoded into an application. It's not as if the services to port number mapping were dynamic as in the SunRPC portmapper database. I want to get a better sense of how this would be implemented on win32 and other platforms first before I commit to this. jeff.nisewanger@Eng 1998-10-30
