FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
Jre 1.6 32bit

ADDITIONAL OS VERSION INFORMATION :
Windows Vista 64 bit

A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
After installing JRE1.6 on Vista 64 bit machine. Type Java on console it says

'java' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

We need to manually set the path varriable to "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0\bin" It should be updated automatically like in XP and Vista32 bit.


REPRODUCIBILITY :
This bug can be reproduced always.

CUSTOMER SUBMITTED WORKAROUND :
Manually update the 'Path' environmental varriable

EVALUATION This will go away when we officially support 64-bit Java for deployment technologies. Marking as a duplicate of that effort.

EVALUATION Is the user sure that they didn't install the 64-bit version of Java?
