JDK-6971126 : Rebranding: Control Panel shows publisher as Sun Microsystems when 6u21 is installed on top of 6u12
  • Type: Bug

  • Affected Version: 6u21

Description
Steps to reproduce:

1. Install 6u12 from http://jre.sfbay.sun.com/java/re/jdk/6u12/latest/bundles/windows-i586/
2. Install 6u21 online bundle from http://star-wip.sfbay.sun.com:88/en/
3. Publisher is Sun Microsystems in COntrol Panel-> Program Features.

Tested on Windows Vista 32-bit with IE8.

If only 6u21 is installed from the same site, the Publisher is shown as Oracle.
The exes like java.exe, javaws.exe also show Company as Sun Microsystems.
This happens when 6u12 is installed on Vista 32-bit, and then 6u21 b07 is installed on top of it.

That is expected. It was the purpose of 6u21-b07.

Tested on Vista 64-bit with jdk-64.exe

Comments
EVALUATION JDK 7 already has the publisher as Oracle. We are not doing any more rebranding work on JDK6, so closing as will not fix.

EVALUATION no more rebranding work on JDK6 per Jeannette

EVALUATION The fix would be to simply modify the Windows Installer registry entry for the JRE.

EVALUATION I first thought that Programs and Features need to be refreshed, but the code that modifies the registry when patching is not changing the publisher as part of rebranding.
