EVALUATION
Will address this issue for 1.4.2 via port of 4698027 fix made in 5.0 FCS time.

EVALUATION
This failure is specific to all version of Linux with 'root' user a/c. Not reproducible with non-root a/c.
SLES10 with 'root' also failed but with 'timeout'.
Tested on RHEL5, SLES10, SLES11.

As it's mentioned in the Comments section, the test used from the promoted test Workspace for the relevant build on the link below
jdk.sfbay: /java/re/j2sdk/1.4.2_21/promoted/fcs/b03/j4b/ws/j2se/test/java/util/TimeZone/LinuxTZVM.sh
Please let me know the location of the test you have used to check if it's different from the version on the link above.

EVALUATION
Is the testcase used from correct testsuite and with appropriate bundle ? We do have latest Olson changes in 1.4.2_21 and test result shows some mismatch there.
