A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
We'd like to determine whether Sun officially supports the latest (1.4.2) Java runtime on Red Hat Enterprise 3. I see that bugs are being resolved that are specific to RHE 3(http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4959566.html), but the Supported System Configurations page for J2SE 1.4.2 lists RHE 2.1 only (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/system-configurations.html).

Since Red Hat has end-of-lifed support of other OS versions and directs customers to RHE3, it is critical for RHE3 to be a supported system comfiguration.

EXPECTED VERSUS ACTUAL BEHAVIOR :
EXPECTED -
Red Hat Enterprise 3 as a supported configuration.
ACTUAL -
Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 only.

Comments
This ancient bug seems to be a non-issue now since the Certified Sys Config page for 1.4.2 mentions newer versions of Red Hat. http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/system-configurations-139862.html

EVALUATION Yes, RH 3 is a supported platform for 1.4.2. I am currently reviewing supported platforms and will be updating these pages soon. ###@###.### 2005-03-25 23:48:32 GMT
