The bugs 4614623 and 4701300 mention Mnemonics on the Windows platform not responding unless the ALT key is pressed. Windows apps toggle this effect. Swing apps do not toggle this effect correctly. In the Windows Explorer, pressing ALT once toggles on all Mnemonics. Pressing it again toggles them off. In a swing app, ALT does not toggle them on at all. F10 toggles them on but does not then toggle them off. You must remove focus from the menu to remove them. In Windows, subsequent ALT/F10 keys also remove focus from the menu.
